Action Pathway
Regional Institutions
Regional institutions shape how Asia and the Pacific respond to challenges that cross borders, from maritime security and cyber threats to disaster risk, migration, environmental pressures, and economic disruption.
Weak coordination, uneven capacity, political sensitivities, and different national priorities can slow collective action, even when countries share the same risks. We began our partnership with ASEAN in the 1980s, and today, we work with approximately 20 ASEAN sectoral bodies and entities across all three community pillars—Political-Security, Economic, and Socio-Cultural—supporting ASEAN priorities through regionally coordinated, country-informed programs. We help strengthen practical regional cooperation by working with institutions such as ASEAN, the Pacific Islands Forum, and APEC, while also supporting local and national partners whose experience can inform regional solutions.
APPROACH
We cooperate with a range of regional institutions to address cross-border challenges, while also providing direct support to strengthen regional institutions themselves. We provide research, policy analysis, planning, convening, institutional training, and implementation support. Our work spans ASEAN cooperation, maritime security, transnational crime, environmental collaboration, labor migration governance, the care economy, and Women, Peace, and Security. By linking regional priorities with country-level experience, TAF helps partners make better decisions, coordinate practical responses, and build stronger systems for security, resilience, economic opportunity, and public trust.
