The Alcohol Industry in Cambodia: A Study of Taxation, Regulation, Distribution, and Consumption of Alcohol

The Asia Foundation commissioned this research to provide greater understanding of the alcohol industry in Cambodia, particularly the taxation, regulation, distribution of alcohol, and alcohol consumption patterns.

This research used multiple research methods to collect qualitative and quantitative data and secondary data analysis to gain insight into the dynamics of the alcohol industry and alcohol supply chains in Cambodia. International and regional strategies to reduce the health and social impacts of alcohol consumption through greater industry regulation, in particular restrictions on alcohol advertising and price controls were examined. This research found that in Cambodia there is little regulation of the alcohol industry including the advertising of alcohol products and very few, if any measures in place to protect consumers.
