The Asia Foundation Launches LeadNext: Ambassadors for a Global Future

The Asia Foundation announces a call for applications for a new program that invests in next-generation leaders. LeadNext: Ambassadors for a Global Future builds a dynamic network of twenty future leaders aged 18-25 from the United States and across Asia who demonstrate a commitment to creative approaches to addressing pressing issues in their communities. The inaugural LeadNext program begins in January 2022.

While there is no single solution to the many complexities in today’s world, investing in next-generation leaders is the closest thing to it. A vital dimension of The Asia Foundation’s impact comes from investing in human capital, particularly harnessing the innovation and energy of young leaders in driving this positive change. The LeadNext program will identify and nurture a diverse group of twenty emerging leaders–ten from the U.S. and ten from across Asia–and provide international networks, exposure to wide-ranging experiences, and the leadership tools necessary to thoughtfully steer our global future.

Applications will be accepted until November 15, with selection shortly thereafter. Interested candidates from Asia must be nominated by Asia Foundation staff in countries where the Foundation maintains a presence. American candidates should apply directly through the online application portal.

The cross-cultural cohort of ten Asian and ten American leaders will:

  • Facilitate dialogue across a range of cultures, disciplines, and working environments
  • Deepen regional and international perspective, understanding, and commitment
  • Foster a community of emerging global leaders through personal international and intercultural experiences and professional networks

The LeadNext program will promote dialogue and camaraderie and deepen trust and cooperation among the next generation of global leaders who can draw upon their shared personal and professional experiences to effect positive change. The program will provide fellows with an opportunity to strengthen their leadership skills and gain in-depth knowledge of critical challenges facing Asia and the globe through leadership training modules and workshops, virtual expert-led masterclasses, and a week-long in-person Global Leaders Summit in the San Francisco Bay Area in August 2022.
