Doing Qualitative Research for Development Programming: A step-by-step guide

This guide provides an overview of how to undertake qualitative research. It is intended for anyone wanting to undertake qualitative research within development programming, and who may be relatively new to leading or designing qualitative research.

It draws on material developed for The Asia Foundation program staff and local partners to support them in conducting a qualitative research project in 2021. The project was part of a larger effort to support locally-led research in development by investing in local program staff’s research capabilities and supporting them in developing practical experience in designing and implementing qualitative research.
