Margaret F. Williams Memorial Fellowship

The Margaret F. Williams Memorial Fellowship in Asian Art supports early-career contemporary art curators through a three-month residency at the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco. Offered every other year, the fellowship brings two emerging curators from Asia and the United States into the museum’s Contemporary Art department, where they contribute to projects and events, develop original work, and deepen their curatorial practice. 

Established in 2007 by Asia Foundation President Emeritus Dr. Haydn Williams in memory of his wife, Margaret F. Williams, the fellowship honors her lifelong interest in Asian art and connection to the museum as a docent. Fellows also receive a professional development award to design an individualized study tour that advances their research, broadens their perspective, and strengthens professional networks across the Asian art field.
