Frans leads strategic leadership on environmental governance programming and partnerships in Indonesia. He has more than 20 years of experience in land and forest governance, community-based conservation, participatory mapping, and strengthening civil society, Indigenous Peoples, and local communities, working closely with government, NGOs, and grassroots organizations. Before taking on his current role with The Asia Foundation, he led and supported major forest and governance initiatives with organizations such as UNODC and Yayasan Citra Mandiri Mentawai, and has extensive experience facilitating multi-stakeholder processes in complex, politically sensitive contexts.

Master of Public Policy and Administration from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a bachelor’s degree in Geography (Cartography and Remote Sensing) from Gadjah Mada University, Indonesia.
