Helping Women Build Financial Security

In rural West Kalimantan, we help women access the financial knowledge, trusted services, and economic opportunities they need to build more secure futures.

West Kalimantan is a largely rural and forested province in Borneo. Its weak infrastructure makes it difficult for many women to access basic services and economic opportunities.

The She Can program, supported by the DBS Foundation, helps women in West Kalimantan move from financial insecurity to economic resilience. Running through 2027, the program aims to reach 80,000 women and address systemic barriers to greater financial access, economic resilience, and control over their financial futures. Through a network of 400 local facilitators, the program delivers practical financial education directly in communities and connects women to trusted financial services and government programs.

The Asia Foundation launched the She Can program with support from the DBS Foundation.

APPROACH

The She Can program combines practical financial education, entrepreneurship training, personalized mentoring, and community engagement to help women strengthen their financial security and livelihoods.

Through locally tailored training across West Kalimantan, women build the knowledge, skills, and confidence to avoid predatory lending, save safely, grow assets, and pursue sustainable income opportunities. More than 10,000 women across 13 districts have participated in more than 800 training sessions, with 84% reporting stronger financial knowledge and confidence.
